Symposium international d'art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul
July 26 - August 25, 2024
The International Contemporary Art Symposium of Baie-Saint-Paul, originally established in 1982 as the International Symposium of Young Painting in Canada by Françoise Labbé, has evolved into a renowned platform for contemporary art in Quebec. Now known for its international participation and diverse range of artists, the symposium remains a pivotal event in the Canadian art scene. With its mission to showcase contemporary art and provide opportunities for emerging talents, the symposium invites twelve artists from across Canada and around the globe to engage in a month-long creative residency.
Located adjacent to the Baie-Saint-Paul Contemporary Art Museum, the symposium offers an immersive experience for both artists and spectators. Visitors have the unique opportunity to witness the artistic process firsthand as participating artists from Charlevoix, Montreal, and beyond, including Mexico and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, bring their visions to life. Under the artistic direction of Anne Beauchemin, this year's theme, "Inhabiting the World: Art and Ecology," underscores the event's commitment to exploring the intersection of contemporary art and environmental consciousness. Through workshops, exhibitions, and interactive sessions, the symposium fosters dialogue and connection between artists and the public, contributing to the vibrant cultural landscape of Baie-Saint-Paul and beyond.
